For the second time since 1978 Garmisch-Partenkirchen was the “heart of alpine skiing” for two weeks. The host broadcasting operation for this year’s most spectacular winter event was in the hands of GAP TV2011, a joint venture of ARD and ZDF. Under the leadership of ZDF the host broadcaster took care of the production of the international signals of all the competitions (Super-G, Downhill, Super Combined, Nations Team Event, Giant Slalom, Slalom), and the services to unilateral broadcasters from 8th to 20th February.

Since years the ORF is famous for its live broadcasts of classical concerts, operas and operettas from various worldwide known open-air stages (Salzburg, Bregenz, Mörbisch) or concert halls (Salzburg, Vienna). Due to the popularity of these events througout Europe, the demand for DVDs and in the future also for high definition Blu-Rays and HD DVDs is obvious. Because of the cooperation of the ORF with DVD production companies an intensive post-production work has to be carried out before the DVD is released. This was one of the reasons why the ORF has decided to buid a High Definition linear edit suite in its facilities in Vienna.

Ikegami cameras have been chosen for the OB-10 live production vehicle recently completed for sports channel Al Kass in Qatar. The vehicle is believed to be the largest ever commissioned by a Middle East broadcaster. Dimensions including tractor unit are 16.5 meters length and 4 meters height. Width is 2.5 meters expanding to 4.1, fully self-supporting. Total weight is 37 tons. It is equipped with 31 cameras for operation by a 29-strong crew.
