China opens the festival season – and in fact more or less reopens the whole event industry after the COV-19 shutdown with a bang. The EV EDM Festival 2020 at the Happy Valley Theme Park in Shanghai is one of the first big events celebrating electronic dance music – not only in China but in fact worldwide since more than 100 days. Every seriously meant EDM party challenges the gear requiring a high sound pressure level, a robust low end and – especially in China – a clean and nice looking stage. But if the party lasts more than 50 days and takes action during the rain season in Shanghai, you have to find a reliable partner with a good plan and real workhorses when it comes to gear. The 2012 iHeartRadio Music Festival didn’t just repeat itself, it got bigger. For the second year in a row, New York-based Firehouse Productions deployed HARMAN’s JBL line arrays for the festival at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Hosted by Ryan Seacrest with performances from top artists including Lil Wayne, Rihanna, Swedish House Mafia, Aerosmith, Mary J. Blige, Bon Jovi, Green Day, Pink!, Usher, Taylor Swift and more, the show closed with Pitbull, joined by Ne-Yo, singing “Give Me Everything.”

In a historic event featuring many of the top names in rock and roll, Firehouse Productions supplied a live sound reinforcement system featuring HARMAN’s JBL VTX line arrays with Crown I-Tech HD amplification for the 27th annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony in Cleveland, Ohio.

The bold stage and presentation aesthetics for 2013 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, took inspiration from the ultra-cool MTV Moon Man Award statue that received a special 30th anniversary makeover this year by New Jersey street-artist KAWS.

The Bonnaroo 2015 Music & Arts Festival came to a jubilant end under the starry skies of Manchester, Tennessee. It was Nashville’s turn to host the 2016 Honda NHL All-Star Weekend, and the four-day event in Music City was packed with enough star power on and off the ice to excite thousands of hockey fans.  Morris, formerly known as Morris Light and Sound, was charged with conceptualizing and executing the audio and lighting installations and providing 24/7 production management at five venues during the weekend.  Morris deployed large complements of Clay Paky Mythos and Sharpy Wash 330 fixtures at three of the locations. 

The T-Mobile arena in Las Vegas was packed during the 2017 Billboard Music Awards, for a star-studded evening punctuated by riveting performances from the music industry’s top contemporary talent. Drake, Beyoncé, Blake Shelton, Camila Cabello, Miley Cyrus, Céline Dion, Bruno Mars, and Nicki Minaj were among the artists to grace the stage with gripping renditions of their hits, all using Sennheiser wireless systems.

The Spaladium Arena in the stunning Croatian coastal town of Split was the venue for the 2017 Porin Music Awards (AKA 'the Porins'), a glamourous, high profile evening which honours the achievements and talent of Croatian artists across a diverse mix of genres and 30 categories and is broadcast live on the national HRT network.
Lighting designer for this year was HRT's Marko Foretić who chose to work with a moving light rig of over 160 Robe fixtures, supplied by one of the leading Croatian rental companies, Promologistika. He worked closely with Promologistika's Miro Hrg who designed the set and video elements.
Marko's ideas for the lighting were developed following in-depth conversations with Miro and the event's director, Danko Volarić.
 

Blackmagic Design today announced that AV solutions featuring its infrastructure products for acquisition, switching, routing and monitoring have been deployed by rental and staging companies on some of this year’s biggest music festivals and concert tours. Artists and festivals include One Republic, Jimmy Buffett, Train and Elton John as well as Route du Rock, BigCityBeats and Reggae Fest.

Broadcast live on February 10, the 61^st Annual Grammy Awards lived up to its reputation as the biggest music award spectacle in the world, with debut Grammy performances by some of today’s most creative and impactful artists such as Travis Scott, Brandi Carlile and Shawn Mendes. Sennheiser and Neumann played an uncompromising role in the technical success of the event, delivering ultra-reliable wireless performance and sonic purity during each performance.

The winners have been announced at the second annual Knight of Illumination Awards USA (KOI-USA) ceremony, which took place at The Joint in The Hard Rock Hotel on Friday, November 22. This year, underlining the immediate popularity of the KOI-USA ceremony, attendance was up by a third over 2018's inaugural event, with almost 400 industry professionals gathering to celebrate the creative talents of lighting and video designers' work produced in the United States over the last year. 

The 62nd Grammy Awards became the first major broadcast event to utilize a large complement of Claypaky Xtylos fixtures when Lighting Designers Bob Dickinson and Noah Mitz of Full Flood Inc. deployed 60 Xtylos for Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani’s duet, “Nobody But You.”
 

The iHeartRadio Music Festival marked its tenth anniversary virtually this year recording its headline artists live, with no audiences, in Los Angeles and Nashville.  Lighting Designer Matthew Ardine handled the LA portion of the show, which hosted Miley Cyrus, Migos, Alicia Keys, Swae Lee, Khalid and Usher at the iHeartRadio Theater.  He utilized an array of Claypaky fixtures, which are part of the theater’s rep plot.
