New interface in KSC Core: BFE opens broadcast control for external control panels
posted:
The aim of the development was to enable the integration of external panels without the need for complex driver development. “The control logic is entirely contained in the KSC Open Controller Interface, with the panel itself serving only for display and input,” explains Andreas Patock, software developer at BFE and responsible for the technical implementation together with Clemens Czuprin. “This keeps the system modular, scalable, and at the same time much easier to configure.”
BFE is responding to specific market requirements with this new development. In practice, many customers are tied to proprietary hardware or require specific devices—for example, for special applications in studios or control rooms. With the KSC Open Controller Interface, these components can now be integrated directly into the KSC environment for the first time.

“The interface is designed so that new panels can be integrated or existing configurations adapted even during operation,” adds Clemens Czuprin, who has been involved in developing the project as a working student from the outset.
Communication takes place via WebSocket or device-specific .NET Assembly DLLs. Text, color, and flashing behavior can be defined individually for each element, and animated displays are also possible. In addition, the architecture allows multiple panels to interact with each other—for example, to select sources and sinks on separate devices.

“Opening up to third-party hardware was a logical next step,” says Jens Schoof, Head of Development at BFE. “This continues our strategy of developing KSC Core into an open, future-proof control platform – independent of the respective operating device.”
For Sven Hesselbach, Managing Director of BFE, the strategic benefits are paramount: “With the KSC Open Controller Interface, our customers gain additional freedom in their choice of devices and the design of modern workplaces – without having to sacrifice the familiar system logic and security.”
The new interface is available now and can be integrated into existing KSC Core environments.
