The agreement with SportA, the sports rights agency of German public broadcasters ARD and ZDF, grants the pay-TV operator the right to show the Match of the Day live in UHD on all tournament days. Financial details of the sublicensing deal were not disclosed. The Sky Sport UHD offer is available to all Sky subscribers in Germany who use the Sky+ Pro receiver and have an Ultra HD TV set.

Canon today releases its flagship full frame Cinema EOS camera, the C700 FF. Thanks to a newly developed, next generation Canon full frame 38.1 mm x 20.1mm CMOS sensor, the camera is capable of recording up to 5.9K, delivering ultimate creative freedom and quality. The EOS C700 FF also supports multi-format recording, shooting with EF, PL and anamorphic lenses. When using EF lenses, the C700 FF supports Canon’s innovative autofocus (AF) system, Dual Pixel CMOS AF, which is ideal for full frame format shooting.

Continuing to enable broadcasters and production companies to adopt Ultra HD (UHD) at their own preferred pace, Hitachi Kokusai Electric America, Ltd. (Hitachi Kokusai) today announced the CU-HD1300F-S1 HDTV camera control unit with 4K, 12G-SDI output. Transforming 1080p to Ultra HD with support for High Dynamic Range (HDR), the new CCU will be showcased alongside other HITACHI unveilings in booth C4309 at the upcoming NAB2018 (April 9-12, Las Vegas). The company also announced an optional firmware upgrade for its SK-UHD4000 4K Ultra HD camera system to enhance simultaneous HDR and Standard Dynamic Range (SDR) acquisition. New optional 12Gbps SDI output capabilities for the accompanying CU-HD4000 CCU have also been added to its existing quad-link SDI interface.

The media industry is taking a major leap towards an IP-centric future as growing market demand converges with rapid acceleration in standards, protocol and interoperability.  Sony’s broadcast customers are increasingly embracing IP for its proven ability to deliver quality live HD and 4K video, audio and synchronisation signals through a single network cable and have identified IP Live Production Infrastructure in their top areas of commercial importance for the coming years.

Until now, the volume of raw data transmission required for 4K/UHD production has made wireless cameras largely impractical for live sport, event, and news applications. However, cameras equipped with DTC’s AEON-TX can now transmit 4K UHD video formats up to and including 2160p60 by taking advantage of the extremely efficient encoding technology built into the AEON-TX.

In September 2017 BBC Studioworks, a commercial subsidiary of the BBC, reopened its studio and post production facility at the world famous Television Centre, incorporating some of the most state-of-the-art technologies in the UK studio industry. CTV Outside Broadcast, a subsidiary of Euro Media Group (EMG), recently completed the refurbishment and technical upgrade of three of its large flagship OB units to Ultra-HD, featuring Axon Synapse 4K signal processing, infrastructure, control and monitoring as standard.

The announcement at Cine Gear 2017 that Sony was planning to introduce a new full frame camera to the market was enough for camera rental service ‘Ludwig Kameraverleih GmbH’ to order two new VENICE cameras, but even before they knew what was fully on offer. There and then Ludwig Kameraverleih Gmbh signed up to purchase whatever was to be revealed, and they’re really pleased they did, now being the first to receive their VENICE cameras in Europe.

Italian production company BetaMedia delivers a range of television programming for clients including Endemol, Infront, and OBS, among others, with credits spanning “Big Brother Italy,” “Master Chef,” the Alpine Skiing World Cup, Olympics and Serie A Football Championship. The company recently joined forces with DBW to develop one of Italy’s first IP-based 4K HDR Outside Broadcast (OB) vans, the Esterna 14. To blend incoming and outgoing signals for 4K/UltraHD HDR, HD HDR and HD SDR broadcasts, BetaMedia recently invested in 24 AJA FS-HDR converters for real-time HDR and WCG conversion.

Blackmagic Design has today announced that Derby County Football Club (DCFC) has invested in a multi camera live production workflow featuring the Blackmagic Studio Camera 4K, Micro Studio Camera 4K and URSA Mini 4.6K. 

Piecing together the right combination of equipment for a mobile production truck is challenging, but establishing a workflow for a 4K/UltraHD HDR truck is a whole new ball game, one that Mobile TV Group’s (MTVG) Peter Wehner excels at. As Director of Engineering, Wehner is one of the architects behind MTVG’s 30 mobile production units, which service more than 4,000 sporting and entertainment productions a year for CBS, CNBC, Fox and DIRECTV, among others. Working alongside MTVG CEO Philip Garvin, Wehner helped build out MTVG’s 53’ 4K HDR Double Expando – the first mobile production unit to deliver a live 4K/UltraHD HDR telecast in the U.S. The mobile unit houses 14 AJA FS-HDRs for real time HDR conversion and 4K/UltraHD/HD frame synchronization as well as 12 AJA FS1-Xs and 12 AJA UDCs for HD up, down, cross-conversion and frame-synching.

The 20 Canon CJ12ex4.3B IRSE S/IASE S lenses, 10 Canon UHD DIGISUPER 90 (UJ90X9B) lenses and 20 CJ20ex7.8B lenses ES Broadcast Hire has purchased will boost its already extensive inventory of Canon kit.
