The Advanced Imaging and Visualization Laboratory (AIVL) at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) - the world's largest private, nonprofit ocean research, engineering and education organization – is expanding its 3D HD production services unit called Woods Hole Imaging Systems. NAB 2010 marks the unit’s official 3D début. Footage created by the Woods Hole Imaging Systems group can be seen within the NAB 2010 booths of Sony, JVC and other 3D-related equipment manufacturers.

On Wednesday, March 24 a Grass Valley™ Kalypso™ high-definition Video Production Center was used by mobile production company Game Creek Video (based in Hudson, N.H.) to produce a live 3D multi-camera telecast of an NHL Hockey from New York’s Madison Square Garden (MSG). From there, and for the first time, the signal of the game between the New York Rangers and New York Islanders was distributed to Cablevision subscribers throughout the New York metropolitan area with 3D television sets in their homes.

SENSIO Technologies Inc. announced that it is collaborating with Teranex Systems, Inc. (Teranex) at the 2010 National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Show to demonstrate integration of the SENSIO® 3D Encoder and Decoder IP Cores within the Teranex VC100 Universal Frame Synchronizer and Format Converter. On March 14th TopVision, the Berlin-based OB-Van production company, presented the first live 3D HD Bundesliga football match in Germany. Nine 3D camera rigs (18 cameras in total) provided the video and Vizrt’s software generated the graphics. The Viz Trio character generator and the dual-channel Viz Engine created and synchronized graphics for the left and right eyes, creating the 3D effect.

China 3D World’s FORUM, held in conjunction with the China Electronics Fair (CEF), is scheduled for Friday, April 9 and Saturday, April 10th. The goal of the 2-day FORUM is to educate FORUM attendees and promote the development of the 3D consumer electronics industry.
