Visual Impact has ordered six of the modular 4K cameras, with four sold to leading rental company 24-7 Drama and the remaining two available for immediate supply. “This is a great 4K camera from Panasonic and offers our customers a true alternative to the current large sensor cameras we stock,“ said Tim Sparrock Director of Visual Impact.

At IBC 2012 (Hall 3 Stand B60), leading broadcast and multiscreen systems integration company Visual Unity will launch 4K Gateway, a portable device for real-time low-latency video streaming up to 3D 4K.

This weekend a worldwide premiere will arrive at screens: the first test of binocular vision in cinemas. The initiative stars Victor, the first three-dimensional optician/optometrist in history, which forms part of Viu en 3-D!, promoted by the Optician and Optometrist Association of Catalonia (COOOC), TV3 Televisió de Catalunya and the Association of Cinema Companies of Catalonia, with the approval of the School of Optometry of the Polytechnic University of Catalonia.

On March 14th TopVision, the Berlin-based OB-Van production company, presented the first live 3D HD Bundesliga football match in Germany. Nine 3D camera rigs (18 cameras in total) provided the video and Vizrt’s software generated the graphics. The Viz Trio character generator and the dual-channel Viz Engine created and synchronized graphics for the left and right eyes, creating the 3D effect.

At IBC, we’ll see – and hear from – people who can see it, almost touch it.  And we’ll hear a ton of naysayers.

They’ve forgotten that:

-          Silent movies lasted from 1895 – 1936

-          B&W TV started in 1928

-          The first U.S. color transmission was in 1954 (Tournament of Roses) but B&W reigned for another dozen years

Not a lot of color TV sets sold back then.

Why? Lack of content, high cost of production and lack of viewing screens.

The M&E industry has a lot of challenges, issues, opportunities on its plate but the Amsterdam event (Sept 14-19) is focused on helping the industry be prepared to prosper in the next 50 years.

VSM is the overall control system in China’s first 4K OB Van. Jiangsu Broadcast Corporation is one of the biggest broadcasting and media companies and incorporates several terrestrial and satellite TV channels, radio channels as well as newspapers and internet services. In 2015 the company put into service its new 24 camera JSBC 4K OB Van, the first 4K OB Van in China.
