It was standing room only at the recent FUJIFILM 4K Day held at the Digital Motion Picture Center (DMPC) in Culver City, California on August 13, with attendees eager to discover what makes a 4K lens truly 4K. The crowd - a cross section of DPs, engineers, company executives, TV and film rental house personnel – got to see the much buzzed about 4K PL-mount Cine-Style and Ultra HD lenses for 2/3-inch broadcast cameras operating side by side and participate in a Q&A following detailed presentations by FUJIFILM executives about the nature of 4K optics.

Canon unveiled theCJ12ex4.3B, a new 2/3” portable 4K zoom lens with the world’s widest focal length. At an incredible 4.3mm it is designed for professionals shooting interviews and live broadcast, including sports and news. Canon also today announces that it is developing a new compact 2/3” 4K all-purpose-zoom lens. Further bolstering Canon’s 4K broadcast lens range for cameras employing 2/3” sensors, the versatile new lens will be optimised for both indoor and outdoor shooting, across a variety of applications including sporting events and live broadcasts as well as television dramas and commercials.

Matrox® Video today announced that Korean video equipment manufacturer Visual Research Inc. (VRi) has chosen Matrox X.mio3 LP SDI cards to power its KarismaCG 4K 3D character generators. At IBC2015 (Amsterdam, Sept. 11–15), VRi products will be presented on stand 7.D05. Matrox products will be shown on stand 7.B29.

Dorna Sports, the commercial and television rights holder for Moto GP, collaborated with BT Sport, its UK broadcasting partner, to produce live coverage of the Octo British Grand Prix at Silverstone in Ultra High Definition. The event marked the first time a MotoGP World Championship event was covered live in Ultra HD, with viewers of the BT Sport UHD channel having the exclusive experience of watching Qualifying on Saturday and the Races on Sunday in the 4K Ultra High Definition format.

In the first demonstration of its kind, Gearhouse Broadcast has announced today that it will upgrade its live remote production demonstration from HD to 4K resolution. The solution uses EVS’ IT-based production switcher DYVI and will be on display on the Gearhouse booth at IBC2015.
