In connection with the transaction, Clearlake has acquired the majority of the newly-issued preferred stock of the company and will own a majority of the voting shares of 3ality Digital. 3ality management also participated in the transaction. Sony delivers world’s first live 3D opera broadcast
Folkoperan in Stockholm has become the world’s first theatre to broadcast an opera in 3D, thanks to Sony’s latest fibre technology. A Sony 4K projector, which provides a picture four times sharper than standard HD, was used during this broadcast of Faust – for the very first time in Sweden. The opera has now been shown across the country in public areas such as People’s Parks and in Community Centres cinemas.

At the 2011 NAB Show, Utah Scientific (booth N4511) and Sisvel Technology (booth N4618) will be demonstrating a new form of 3D broadcasting that is fully compatible with 2D television displays, allowing 3D and 2D viewing of a single broadcast stream. This is made possible by 3D Tile Format, an innovative technique for formatting stereoscopic images that integrates two 720p frames within a single 1080p frame. The reconstructed right and left images maintain their original 720p spatial and temporal resolution, giving viewers of both versions the full benefit of the original picture.
