After extensive research and testing of various encoding solutions, Bern-based telecommunications service provider, Swisscom, has selected Rohde & Schwarz to provide ultra high definition (UHD) encoding facilities for the upcoming Russia 2018 soccer championship.  

A report in Display Daily from highly regarded industry analyst Chris Chinnock says that HDR and WCG displays will rapidly become mainstream. He states: “Nearly every UHD TV in 2016 will support the basic HDR-10 level of HDR. Most will have HDMI 2.0a connectors to be able to read static metadata, which is part of HDR-10.”

The Ultra HD Forum, a global advocacy body with a mission to facilitate the adoption of UHD and related technologies, announced today that its membership has grown significantly, as the industry ramps up for UHD commercial deployments. The market for Ultra-HD TV panels reached a significant new benchmark in March when global shipments exceeded 1 million units for the first time, driven by vastly increased deliveries from the industry’s three largest makers of the high-end panels, according to a report from IHS Technology.

Hilversum-based video systems specialist United has chosen Leader's LV5490 as the test and measurement core of a 4K ultra-high-definition flyaway production system for Amazon Prime's new motoring television series, The Grand Tour. The show reunites presenters Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May. An initial 36 episodes are being produced for release on Amazon Prime. The LV5490 was purchased via Leader's channel partner Fofic BV, based at Diemen near Amsterdam.

On Saturday 6th July this year, United undertook the recording of Muse’s concert at the Olympic Stadium in Rome. Following Coldplay and Andrea Bocelli’s concerts in 2012, this year United was asked to record the video and audio for Muse’s concert in a unique manner. A dual workflow was developed for the concert, which on one hand worked in HD 1080 25Psf for Blue Ray, and on the other, recorded a complete 4K programme for a possible cinema release. All this, in the highest quality, with digital film cameras and lenses in a multiple camera situation. United managed to break new ground.
