Swansea City Association Football Club, founded in 1912, is a Welsh professional football club based Swansea, Wales that plays in the Championship, English football’s second tier. The club is currently sitting fifth in the league and, having narrowly missed out on promotion to the Premiership last season, has a promotion place in its sights once again for 2021. Summer 2020 should have been the watershed season for both HDR and UHD TV production. In Europe, the UEFA Euro football championships were scheduled to be followed by the Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Covid-19 pandemic put pay to practically all large-scale sport, forcing broadcasters and production companies to adjust their technology and focus on new remote workflows.

The German company HAIX is internationally known as a manufacturer of premium quality functional footwear ‘Made in Europe’, which is particularly popular with fire brigades and special forces operators, as well as craftsmen.
The common denominator of its products is extremely high quality. Quality was also going to be of major importance for the virtual launch of the highly innovative ConnexisGo! casual shoe. HAIX enlisted WBLT MEDIA to realise an innovative live event, that should include a virtual studio simulation using compositing, and to integrate an actual LED wall and floor as part of a green screen environment.

We are now just a few weeks away from the long-awaited return of the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC), held this year at the Ahoy Arena in Rotterdam on 18-20 and 22 May 2021 and organized by the EBU - the world’s leading alliance of public service media. OSRAM, parent company of Claypaky, will be the official lighting partner of the ESC 2021 and, as in past years, will contribute to the event by illuminating a key building in the city of Rotterdam.

Riedel Communications today announced that popular French TV network Metropole Television (M6 Group) is upgrading its production video routing infrastructure to Riedel’s MediorNet real-time video networking topology. MediorNet replaces several disparate routing systems deployed across the M6 broadcast facility in Neuilly-sur-Seine, bringing a decentralized, consistent, and future-proof approach to the network’s video operation. M6 is one of the most-watched television networks in the French-speaking world, offering a broad and varied lineup of programs. The previous M6 video routing architecture consisted of various production islands running their own routers and connecting via video tie-lines, a legacy configuration that has typified broadcast operations for the past two decades. 

“The Tony Baker Show” and “Keep Your Distance, Presented by KevOnStage” were two of the most-watched indie stand-up comedy specials during COVID-19, averaging 8,000-15,000 household viewers per episode. The two sister series aired 20 live shows between July 2020 and April 2021, helping to lighten the mood for fans at home during pandemic shutdowns. Under the direction of Transit Pictures, with the involvement of Invictus Entertainment and Technical Director Arthur Khoshaba, both series were filmed on an outdoor stage at Transit Pictures in Los Angeles, CA and live streamed to remote audiences in 1080p, using a live production workflow with AJA KUMO 1616-12G at the core for SDI signal routing.

Estonian rental company Strikken supplied the lighting design and production design and equipment for the Power Stage Live TV podium, which welcomed the 2020 winners of Rally Estonia event – part of the World Rally Championship (WRC) – and was set up close to the final stage finish line, near Rally Estonia’s HQ in Tartu. They relied on the power and versatility of Robe moving lights including LEDWash 300s, LEDWash 800s and MMX Spots to deliver spectacular looking results. The luminaires were picked for their compact size, light weight, and brightness, and all rigged on the stage ground support structure together with some outrigged pipes facilitating the front positions.

Lighting designer Henk-Jan van Beek of Light-H-Art design has chosen significant numbers of each fixture for the main ambient and effects lighting for this annual music extravaganza. The full requirement of Ayrton fixtures – 386 in total - will be supplied by Eurovision 2021’s lighting, audio and rigging supplier, Ampco Flashlight. The stage design for Eurovision 2021 by Florian Wieder is being kept under wraps for now, but those in the know at Ampco Flashlight have hinted at a wall of MiniPanel-FX which they describe on their Eurovision blog (www.ampco-flashlight.com/nl/esc) as ‘a cute little fixture that is fierce and powerful” - and that’s just for starters.

Pixotope, the world’s leading mixed reality solution for live media production, has enabled VideoReport Canarias, a regional news and entertainment broadcasting services provider in Spain, to expand its virtual production offering in six months. This is the first time a Spanish local TV channel has adopted real-time augmented reality content techniques.

Mitomo is a leading Japanese broadcast equipment and service provider, and since 1980, its post-production arm has specialized in planning and production for film, TV news, documentary, live event and corporate content. In 2015, the post-production arm was relocated, expanded and reestablished as MITOMO STUDIO SHIBUYA to meet a continuing surge in demand for 8K content. To further manage simultaneous post and delivery of 2K, 4K and 8K HDR productions, a new state-of-the-art 8K editorial review suite was introduced in March 2020, featuring AJA KUMO 3232-12G to centralize 8K routing operations and SKAARHOJ Rack Fly Duo to simplify remote router control.
