Thai satellite platform operator MVTV has updated to latest-generation broadcast television playout resources from PlayBox Neo. Based at headquarters in Bangkok, MVTV provides turnkey broadcast playout services for a portfolio of television channels and its own 24-hour entertainment station. Transmitting in HD, the MVTV channel offers its viewers an eclectic mix of content including news and documentaries, music, fashion, sport and coverage of the theatrical arts. MVTV is also establishing a new OTT service called MV Hub. The company's latest investment includes the Capture Suite multi-channel live ingest plus TitleBox Neo-20 graphics and text creation running within an AirBox Neo-20 operating environment.

Built in 1980, Bahrain radio, with seven radio stations, was long due for a revamp. The recent USD6,5m turnkey project, which is the first phase, has launched this facility into the digital realm. The entire facility has been refurbished, from nine radio studios and control rooms to the MCR (Master Control Room) and CAR (Central Apparatus Room), with a parallel overhaul of furniture, equipment, automation systems, radio library and acoustics.

Before I came to work at Imagine Communications, I was in live production and operations. I have pulled cables across the athletic fields of universities, and I have run master control for internationally viewed broadcasts. If I had to summarize my decade of experience in live broadcasting, I would say that the key requirement was the ability to make snap decisions while working in a constant pressure cooker. Of course, staying cool-headed isn’t enough to save a broadcast if you don’t have the right tech: flexibility to get the shots you need, reliability to stay on air, and agility to instantly get around a problem should one occur.

Having already successfully assisted clients in converting large studio and production buildings to an IP infrastructure, LOGIC media solutions was in charge of another IP migration process in the broadcast industry that is currently receiving particular attention. However, this time, it is a mobile and flexible flight case infrastructure for the “Mobile Produktions Einheit” (MPE) (Mobile Production Unit). The technology used jointly by German broadcasters ZDF and ARD has been upgraded to full IP functionality in essential core components. The mobile production unit comprises a wide variety of customised components to suit the individual purpose and event. It is used jointly by ZDF and ARD for events which, due to their size and complexity, cannot be handled with conventional production means (OB vans, on-site studio), e.g. European and World Cup football matches or summer and winter Olympic Games.
