IP remote production has gradually begun to revolutionize the economics and logistics of production by transforming the transmission of feeds across the globe, and this trend has only been accelerated by the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. With an increasing number of production companies now able to utilize more cost-effective bandwidth over high-performance IP-based networks, fewer resources such as equipment and staff are needed on-site. Instead, resources in central facilities are fully utilized and higher efficiency is achieved.

WHYY-TV, the PBS member station serving Philadelphia (DMA #4), used the new Fluent™ Rapid CG option with its Broadcast Pix Slate™ 5000 video production system last week to streamline its coverage of live election results. With Rapid CG, the station was able to automatically and seamlessly integrate the AP News Wire feed into its on-air graphics, which provided up-to-the-minute results for several significant political races in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware.

PBS member station WHYY-TV in Philadelphia (DMA #4) has installed Broadcast Pix™ Granite™ live video production systems in two control rooms. Earlier this year, WHYY added a Granite 5000 when it converted the control room in its Content Production Center (CPC) into a flexible, multimedia resource for live production and more. A Granite 1000 is also at the heart of the Dorrance H. Hamilton Public Media Commons, an 8,000-square-foot interactive learning environment that opened last summer.

Wigwam Acoustics has implemented DiGiCo and Optocore’s latest software to build the first Multiplexed DiGiCo Fibre Ring systems for use in the live environment, which in addition to audio, also incorporated video transport. Live television broadcasts between Los Angeles and New York City will soon be faster than ever, thanks to the recently-completed expansion of Wilcon’s state-of-the-art, fiber-optic network infrastructure in West Los Angeles. The Pacific Television Center (PacTV) entertainment transmission facility, located on Motor Avenue, is harnessing Wilcon’s extensive optical network to increase distribution speeds.

Award-winning commercial/music video cinematographer Mark Williams’ recent music video, “Everlong” is poised to launch female choir Scala to the top of the charts. Scala’s unique cover of Radiohead’s “Creep”, used for the trailer for “The Social Network” earned the group accolades. Williams chose MiniPlus LED fixtures from Litepanels, a Vitec Group brand, for the music video shooting.
