The tension rose when on Saturday evening at about 23:30 local time Eurovision Song Contest scoring began. The juries and TV viewers favourites varied the voting considerably from country to country. This year the  winner did not emerge until the very end of the show with the sentence, “The winner is Azerbaijan!”

It was an exciting challenge for the whole Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) team to design, produce and broadcast one of the most spectacular event in 2011. The venue of ESC 2011 in Dusseldorf offered a perfect set up for the biggest music show in the world: 35,000 fans from all over the globe found their place around the center stage in a gigantic football arena which was transferred into a 15,000sqm TV studio.

Just before the final the tension rises at the Eurovision Song Contest.  Will the charming Lena win again for the second time or which other artist will win the competition? The decision is made by around 120 million TV spectators in Europe, receiving their TV sound from a mobile broadcast centre at the Dusseldorf Arena featuring AURUS sound control rooms.

It was grandMA2’s night to sparkle en espanol. Lighting designer Carlos Colina who was responsible for Univision’s “Premio lo Nuestro ala Musica Latina” awards show, selected a pair of grandMA2 light consoles tocontrol approximately 400 fixtures illuminating the gala special. The 23rd annual show honored Latin artists chosen by fans in online and mobile phone voting. It aired live from Miami’s American Airlines Arena.

For German broadcasters ARD and ProSieben, the whole of May 2011 revolves around the European Song Contest (ESC). The lateral Signals for the EBU are produced with Stagetec Aurus audio mixers by ARD/ZDF at the international broadcast compound in Dusseldorf while the unilateral audio signals for ARD and ProSieben will be managed by outside broadcast units equipped with Lawo technology.

Audio Engineering Society Fellow andSoundcraft Founder and Technical Director Graham Blyth will perform the nowtraditional AES Convention Organ Recital at Lincoln's Inn Chapel in London onFriday, May 13th commencing at 8.00 PM. Graham's programme includes works byBach, Franck, contemporary composer Dennis Wickens and a complete performanceof Widor's 5th Organ Symphony, the final movement of which is the famousToccata. This will be Graham’s 33rd concert recital for the AES.

The recent X Chili Cook-Off 2011 outdoor music festival combined blazing music with offerings from some of the area’s hottest chili chefs. Held at the Richmond Raceway Complex in Virginia and hosted by radio station 102.1 The X, performers such as Seether, Sick Puppies, 10 Years, Saving Abel and The Dirty Heads, were mixed through two of HARMAN’s Soundcraft Vi4 digital consoles, deployed by Soundworks.

Arqiva, a communications infrastructure and media services company, has been appointed by the BBC as the Outside Broadcasts provider for their flagship ‘Antiques Roadshow’ programme. This is the fourth consecutive season Arqiva has provided the BBC with on-location facilities for the show, which will once again be captured in High Definition.

On the 29th of April 2011 at 8:15 PM, German private broadcaster SAT.1 showed the 100,000-Euro finale of the game show Die perfekte Minute (A Minute to Win It), with host Ulla Kock am Brink. This show was recorded at MMC’s stage 32.

2 x grandMA2 light consoles and 9 x MA VPU (Video Processing Unit) plus are being used to deliver the stunning video and graphics package for the current series of German Pop Idol, which is being recorded in Studios 30/31 at the Coloneum MMC Studios in Cologne, produced by Grundy Light Entertainment.

NDR, the German public broadcaster have officially announced that Presteigne Charter will fulfil Eurovision’s broadcast equipment needs for the 2011 contest.
