On a night full of surprises, JBL Professional loudspeakers were once again called upon at the 53rd Annual GRAMMY® Awards to ensure predictable, high-quality live sound and audio for television broadcast. Held at the STAPLES Center in Los Angeles on Sunday, February 13, the GRAMMY Awards were broadcast live in HDTV and 5.1 surround sound on the CBS Television Network. Once again, ATK Audiotek deployed its custom-designed cart system with JBL VERTEC® line arrays for the Halftime Show and Post-Game Show of the Super Bowl, held at Cowboys Stadium in Dallas, Texas on February 6, 2011. The carts were also used for Lea Michele’s rendition of “America the Beautiful” and Christina Aguilera’s performance of “The Star-Spangled Banner.”

Loudness Sonorizacao of Sao Paulo, Brazil, one of Brazil’s leading concert audio suppliers, recently provided a large, multi-array JBL VERTEC® line array system for legendary rock band Rush at an outdoor show in Rio de Janeiro. The concert was part of Rush’s “Time Machine Tour” and was held at the Praca de Apoteose (Apotheosis Square) venue, famous as a staging site for Rio’s legendary Carnival.

It was the 90th anniversary of the Miss America Pageant and a pair of grandMA2 light’s made their debut at the show, which was telecast live on ABC from the Planet Hollywood casino-resort in Las Vegas. The pageant reunited lighting designer Allen Branton, who returned for the fourth time, and fellow lighting directors Kevin Lawson and Felix Peralta, who marked their third year and fourth year on the show respectively. This also marked the first time that Lawson and Peralta had used the grandMA 2 on a live televised broadcast beautiful.

Ross Video’s XPression 2D/3D CG and motion graphics system was the choice of L.A.-based Mdots/Fontastics to provide on-screen graphics for the 17th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards which aired live on TNT and TBS, Sunday, January 30th. XPression provided all of the winner lower-thirds, side panel nominee boxes, TV ratings bugs, and end credits during its premiere award show outing.

Arqiva, on behalf of Cineworld, has provided complete transmission services for the launch of Believe: The Eddie Izzard Story in their UK Cinemas. Arqiva’s SNG/Production-facilities truck was deployed to the Cineworld Cinema on Haymarket where it played out and uplinked the film to satellites including Arqiva’s Digital Cinema Platform on IS905. The truck then provided HD filming and uplinking of the live Q&A session with Eddie Izzard, hosted by Phil Jupitus in front of a celebrity audience. The complete event was downlinked and screened by nearly fifty Cineworld cinemas around the UK on 18 November.

The Royal Variety Performance held annually at The London Palladium Theatre is a vast, live command performance showcasing over 30 acts in the presence of HRH Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall.
