MMC Studios Creates the World’s First Live Sports Event for a Prime Time Commercial Break
‘The Easter 2015 Rabbit Race’ produced at MMC Studios in Cologne, Germany, was the first commercial live event ever that was broadcast live and simultaneously by nine of the biggest German private TV stations, and also via live web streaming on the Internet. At the same time, it was the world’s first live sports event for a prime time commercial break. For the organizer, Media Markt, the biggest German electronics retailer, the project was a complete success. Additionally, the rabbit race was awarded a Golden Lion at this year’s Cannes Lions festival.
Brazilian pop superstar films DVD with Clay Paky
Brazil’s biggest pop star Luan Santana has filmed his latest DVD ‘Luan Santana – Acoustic’ at a sold out show, with the production and lighting designed by Ludmila Machado and Marcos Olivio of Spectrun Design. Together, the creative duo employed an array of Clay Paky fixtures to deliver crucial looks for the event, with the video becoming the second most watched in YouTube history. HPL Light Company is the Clay Paky official distributor for Brazil.

dbn Lights Parklife 2015
dbn Lighting returned to Heaton Park in Manchester to supply lighting to five out of the eight stages and video to two of those - for the popular Parklife Weekender music festival with which they have been involved since its inception in 2010. The crew - which peaked at 24 technicians, programmers and operators - was led by dbn’s Pete Robinson, and they started their various get-ins across the site on the Wednesday. There were a few logistical curved balls thrown into the mix for good measure, including a Friday night concert by the Courteeners which was slotted in by promoters SJM on Stage 4. While dbn were not lighting this ... the licensing restricted access to other areas which therefore had to be ready ahead of time.

The crowd gasped when Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl toppled offstage during a show on June 12 in Gothenburg, Sweden. Grohl, however, quickly showed the single-minded perseverance that has led him to success in music and documentary filmmaking. Shortly after being helped off stage for medical attention, he was back in front of the crowd—seated this time—singing and playing guitar while a doctor held his leg in place.

It’s festival season for DirectOut with Rock am Ring and Southside!
Some 90,000 people descended on Rock am Ring in Mendig in western Germany last month for the festival’s 30th anniversary in a brand new location. Attendances hit record levels to see headline acts Slipknot, Foo Fighters, Motorhead and In Flames amongst others. With over 150 bands playing over three days, festival-goers were spoilt for choice. Southside, which took place in Tuttlingen in southern Germany, featured over 100 bands but with a distinctly more “alternative pop/rock” flavor. This time, around 60,000 fans turned out over three days to enjoy the music and a mix of sunshine and rain. DirectOut was on hand for the duration of both festivals to ensure seamless audio transmission from the stage to OB van for regional public broadcaster SWR.
