Weightlifting will showcase a test of pure strength – the oldest and most basic form of physical competition. At the London Olympics weightlifting is staged at the ExCel exhibition centre.

Recognised as one of the world’s oldest sports, Wrestling was first held at the ancient Olympics in 708 BC, and Greco-Roman Wrestling was included at the Athens 1896 Games, the first of the modern era. Moving to a new, modernized stadium is not a straightforward undertaking, as anyone who’s ever made this move will tell you. The only thing that’s more complicated may just be staying in an old one. Ever since the Olympique Lyonnais club was officially established in 1950, its home was the playing field of Stade de Gerland, which is now more than 100 years old. Rich in historic architecture, the stadium had to undergo multiple incarnations to accommodate various seating formations and FIFA regulations. Through periods of construction and renovation, it ultimately reached a maximum capacity of 43,000.

The 2012 Tour de France is the 99th edition. It began in the city of Liège in Belgium on 30 June, and is scheduled to end on the Champs-Elysées in Paris on 22 July. Besides Belgium and France, the Tour will also pass through Switzerland. The route features a total of 101.1 km covered in individual time trials and only three uphill finishes: La Planche des Belles Filles (stage 7), La Toussuire - Les Sybelles (stage 11) and Peyragudes (stage 17).

Beijing was the third Summer Games for Polecam. The 2017 World Rowing Championships, the ultimate rowing event and season highlight, governed by the World Rowing Federation FISA, were hosted at the Nathan Benderson Park, a new setup water-event location in Sarasota/Bradenton, Florida USA. With this championship the biggest international rowing event returned to the US after more than 18 years. More than 900 athletes were competing for the title of World Champion.

The sport of harness racing, also known as trotting, is tremendously popular in Sweden. After a three-year hiatus, the Red Bull Air Race World Championship came roaring back in 2014. The eight-stop 2014 Red Bull Air Race World Championship began in Abu Dhabi in March with subsequent stops in Rovinj, Croatia in April, Putrajaya, Malaysia in May, Gdynia, Poland in July, Ascot, United Kingdom in August, Dallas/Fort Worth, USA in September , and Las Vegas, Nevada, USA in October, before it arrived for the final in Spielberg, Austria, a sensational location for the sport. The Spielberg stop was the 58th overall Red Bull Air Race, a sport that has been staged in 18 countries since it was launched in 2003.

After over a year of preparation the London Air Race took off on 28th and 29th July. The course is framed by the Thames Barrier, the skyscrapers of Canary Wharf and the Greenwich Peninsula which is dominated by London’s newest entertainment destination, The O2.
