In the last couple of years 3D productions have had an enor­mous impact on the movie industry, with creative and financial success allied to the technical triumphs. Many of these suc­cessful movies have been entirely animated, but increasingly there is a market for live action or mixed environments, with Avatar the leading example.
While movies are usually made in very controlled circum­stances, where every element can be prepared in advance, there will be some occasions in which television style produc­tion techniques will be used. Concert movies like the Hannah Montana special are obvious examples.

3D African Wildlife Pilot: “Distant Thunder”

World renowned wildlife filmmakers Deeble & Stone have partnered with leading 3D production specialist Inition to co-produce a 3D wildlife pilot in Africa. The shoot took place in Kenya and was produced in association with equipment manufacturer P+S TECHNIK. The pilot is narrated by Sir Ian Holm and will be screened for the first time on 1st June at Dimension 3, Seine-Saint-Denis, France.

3DLIVE project supported by the French Ministry of Industry

Launched in March 2009, 3D Live is a collaborative project that has been accredited by the three French 'Image' competitive clusters, Images et Réseaux (images and networks) in Brittany and Pays de Loire, Imaginove in Rhone-Alps, and Cap Digital in Ile-de-France. The project brings together 8 partners. Project leader France Télécom Orange is drawing on the supplemental skills and expertise of Technicolor R&D France, Grass Valley France, Thales Angénieux, AMP (televised shoots), Binocle (special 3D capture equipment and software), in synergy with INRIA and Telecom Institute research laboratories.

Global Television Upgrades more than 30 EVS Servers for 3D Replays & Powers First Australian Live 3D Sporting Events

Global Television has recently confirmed its trust in EVS Instant Tapeless Technology by upgrading more than 30 XT[2] servers for Live 3D Replay and Slow Motion operations. Global TV provided new EVS 3D systems for the first Australian live 3D sport broadcast, during the soccer match between Australia and New Zealand on 24 May, and again two days later for the National Rugby League matches.
