Sky creates 3D for TV with Sony cameras
“It’s about getting everybody to understand what makes for good 3D shots. In 2D you can get away with faster panning and jumps versus 3D – for 3D it’s what we call ‘linger longer’. If you’re jumping between shots, the depth is way in and then way out and, if you don’t have a small depth transition between shots, that creates a lot of eye strain.”
Sky has made the first significant moves towards broadcasting stereoscopic 3D programming. It has successfully produced footage from four separate events and delivered the programming through a high definition set-top box.

As part of a s3D project at the Film Academy Baden-Wuerttemberg, LMC Live Motion Concept GmbH and chroma TV shot a full trailer on the swissrig with two Phantom HD Gold Highspeed Cameras in collaboration with academy students. The fully synchronized control of the Phantom HD Gold highspeed cameras developed by LMC and the perfectly matched SwissRig from Chroma Film & TV enabled a comfortable workflow and quick playback of the recorded sequences in s3D. At the film set a instant visual inspection of the stereoscopic images with a s3D Monitor and s3D glasses was possible.

FIFA World Cup Games in South Africa to be captured in 3D
Next June, the 2010 World Cup tournament in South Africa will be captured in stereoscopic 3D for the first time, with up to 25 of the games to be shot with special 3D cameras, according to FIFA’s soccer governing body.

Panasonic to start development of new professional 3D production system

At Band Pro's One World on HD Open House back in December one of Sony's newest cameras was debuted, the HDC-P1. This compact, box-style camera does full HD with a 2/3" CCD sensor, B4 mount and variable frame rates, including 24p. Originally conceived as a studio camera, this camera will soon find itself flying off the shelf in pairs because of its natural fit for 3D production.

GTC takes to the air March 27
